Apply for affordable apartments in Iowa City's downtown: Augusta Place
Affordable housing apartments in one of Downtown Iowa City’s newest developments will soon be available to the public in Augusta Place.
Augusta Place is a 104 apartment, 26 town-home, seven-story residential building at 20 S. Gilbert St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
Located in the heart of Downtown, Augusta Place sits next to City Hall and the site of the historic Unitarian Universalist Church. It’s three-blocks away from the Pedestrian Mall and the Iowa City Public Library.
The Iowa City Housing Authority is purchasing six one-bedroom apartments.
The apartments include:
One bedroom
In-unit washer and dryer
Kitchen with an refrigerator, range and dishwasher
Full bathroom
Living room
Outdoor balcony
Tenants pay all utilities. No pets and no smoking. There is no on-site parking.
Rent is $586 a month, plus a security deposit totaling one month’s rent. To qualify for these federally subsidized units, an applicant must meet certain income and household status qualifications. Household income must be below 80 percent of the area's median income; preference will be given to households with income below 60% of the area’s median income. At 60%, a one-person household’s income cannot exceed $36,540 and a two-person household, income cannot exceed $41,760.
The application window opens Monday, April 1, 2019 and closes at 5 p.m., Friday, April 5. Those who successfully fill out the application form and qualify will be drawn at random by a lottery system and will be offered the apartments first.
