The Library Channel Mediacom broadcast ends April 3
Beginning April 3, The Library Channel will no longer be broadcast on Channel 20 via Mediacom. This decision was made by Iowa City Public Library administrators due to changing technology and the increased costs associated with broadcast equipment.
The Library Channel originates from the Iowa City Public Library. Its primary mission is to extend Library programs for children and adults to a wider audience and to inform the community about Library services. Those who wish to continue viewing The Library Channel content may do so at video.icpl.org. Live streamed programs can be viewed by visiting the Library’s calendar event pages or YouTube.
For more information, call the Library at 319-356-5200.
ICPL announces April class schedule
During the month of April, the Iowa City Public Library will host classes that highlight the addition of Wacom Intuos graphics tablets to its selection of equipment. These tablets will allow users to hand-draw images, animations, graphics, and more on the computer. Library patrons can look forward to these arts-based classes to learn more about this exciting technology.
Did you know you can turn your family photos into a coloring book for all ages? On Monday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., we will use your family photos to digitally “draw” the pages of your own coloring book. No previous experience is necessary, though participants may need higher level computer skills to feel successful. Please bring several family photos – digital or print – to the class.
Are you a comic artist in the making or do you just love to doodle? Take your artwork from the sketchbook to the screen! Join us on Monday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn the basics of using a Wacom Intuos tablet to digitally sketch, draw, and paint. Higher level computer skills and comfort may be necessary to feel successful in this class, though all are welcome.
Want to use the Digital Media lab at any time while the library is open? Ask for an orientation at the Page Station so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, edit digital images or video, or create new digital work such as graphics, animations and more using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Wacom tablets. To use the lab, individuals should have a valid ICPL Library Card.
Classes are free and space is limited, so patrons should register early. Register online here or call the Library at 319-356-5200.
All classes will be held in the Digital Media Lab on the second floor.
Voting in Book Madness continues through April 14
We're midway through our annual literary competition, Book Madness @ ICPL!
Books competing in the 2019 “tournament” fall into eight categories; four for the children’s brackets and four for the teen/adult bracket. The 2019 categories are as follows:
TEENS/ADULTS: All You Need Is Love, Listen Up!, Short Reads, and Rise Up!
The brackets are posted in the Library’s Gallery on the first floor of the Library. Stop by anytime the Library is open to vote for the titles you think should advance to the next round. We update the brackets every Monday and will announce the winner on April 15.
Books that advance through the “tournament” will be posted on the Book Madness webpage, the first floor display, and updated on Facebook and Twitter.
