Leaf Vacuum Program to extend service as weather allows
The Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program has been extended and will continue to pick up leaves in Iowa City as weather allows. The program was originally scheduled to end on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018.
Leaf vacuum cannot guarantee pick up
This late in the season, it isn't likely that crews will make it through all seven zones again. If you want to guarantee pickup of your leaves, bag them in yard waste bags and place them at the curb on your regular curbside collection day.
Leaves can also be taken to the Iowa City Landfill, 3900 Hebl Ave S.W., free of charge.
Crews will not return for piles after the area has been vacuumed, or for piles left due to parked cars.
Weather depending
The continuation of the program is weather permitting and may end at any time. Trucks need to undergo winter maintenance in preparation for the snow season, including removing leaf boxes, inspecting trucks for structural issues, and installing plows and salt applying equipment.
