WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK ON THE BOOKMOBILE? Awesome. The collection includes new, popular materials and it’s really easy to browse. People who visit the Bookmobile are always happy, and that makes the staff very happy too. Also, on the Bookmobile when it’s not busy, we get to have conversations with people about books and movies. That’s fun. Some days we get to sit on the floor and interact with the children who are playing with the educational toys that are on the Bookmobile. Some days we get to read a story to a child or do an impromptu storytime. It’s wonderful.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE BOOKMOBILE? It’s really a happy place. The big windows make it very sunny inside and people who visit the Bookmobile are always excited about what they find.
SHARE A BOOKMOBILE MEMORY WITH US. My favorite Bookmobile story is from last summer. We were at a mobile home community in rural Johnson County. Two students – a junior high guy and his younger sister – came to the Bookmobile wearing the t-shirts they earned by completing the 2017 Summer Reading Program. They were so proud of those shirts. They had never been able to participate in ICPL’s Summer Reading Program until the Bookmobile brought Library service into their neighborhood. I will never forget how excited they were. I will also never forget how awesome it felt knowing we were a part of something that made a big difference in the lives of others.
WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE BOOKMOBILE? The Bookmobile has materials for everyone and people can request materials from the Downtown Library and pick them up on the Bookmobile. The Bookmobile goes all over town and all stops are open to the public. There is FREE, convenient parking at every Bookmobile stop.
Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, the Bookmobile serves all!
Recently a Bookmobile user asked if we'd still operate once there's snow on the ground. The answer is YES!
The Bookmobile was built to handle everything Mother Nature throws at it, including road construction, which we all know there was a lot of this summer. Go here for the current schedule.
Please note that there will be no Bookmobile service on Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day. The downtown building will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Bookmobile will be off the road on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and Thursday, Nov. 22, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Remember, even when the Bookmobile isn’t in service, online services are available 24/7 at www.icpl.org. This includes account access and, for those who live in our service area, access to ICPL’s Digital Library including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, The New York Times and Kanopy video streaming.
It's Bookmobile Math Time!

Happy Picture Book Month from the Bookmobile!
Did you know November is Picture Book Month?
Picture Book Month is an international literacy initiative that celebrates the print picture book in an increasingly digital age. The Library recognizes this event by posting images of staff with their favorite childhood picture book on our social media sites and guess what? We have two Bookmobile picture books in our collection!
Miss Dorothy and Her Bookmobile by Gloria Houston tells the story of Dorothy, who has always wanted to work in a library like the one in her neighborhood. When she moves to rural North Carolina, she learns that the type of library is not as important as the books and the people who read them.
Do you know animals love books, too? That's what Mavis McGrew finds out when she accidentally drives her bookmobile to the zoo in Wild About Books by Judy Sierra.
