Iowa City welcomes new Recreation Superintendent
The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to welcome Brad Barker as its new Recreation Superintendent. Brad brings nearly 16 years of management experience in the field of recreation service, the last 11 of which has been served in public parks and recreation. Before arriving in Iowa City, Brad spent four years as the Director of Parks and Recreation in Vinton, Iowa and served as the department’s Assistant Director for the prior seven years. In addition to recreation, special events and aquatics programming, Brad brings extensive experience in staff leadership, facility operations, financial management and community engagement.
Brad earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Iowa State University and a Master’s degree in Park & Recreation Management from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
"I look forward to working in Iowa City and focusing on its continued drive for innovative programming, quality customer service, as well as the delivery of premier recreational spaces and opportunities that truly meet the leisure needs of residents," Barker said.
"Brad is an established recreation professional in Iowa," Parks and Recreation Director Juli Seydell Johnson said. "I am confident he will bring innovation and quality to Iowa City's recreation programs and facilities."
Brad replaces former Recreation Superintendent, Chad Dyson, who left his position at the beginning of August to lead the Davenport Parks and Recreation Department.
Brad began his official duties on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
