RAGBRAI riders will travel through heart of UI campus to City Park campground
When an estimated 12,000 RAGBRAI riders arrive in Iowa City on Friday,
July 27, they will approach the city from the south on Sand Road/Gilbert Street
on their way to the campground at City Park, 200 Park Road.
The in-town bike route will take riders from:
South Gilbert Street north to Market Street
Market Street west to Madison Street
Madison Street south to Iowa Avenue
Iowa Avenue west to Riverside Drive
Riverside Drive north to Park Road and the main entrance
to City Park
RAGBRAI support vehicles, which will park in the University of Iowa’s
Hancher Auditorium lot adjacent to City Park, are asked to approach Iowa City
from Interstate 80, and travel south on Dubuque Street (exit 244) to City Park. It is anticipated that the Park Road bridge will be open for Registered RAGBRAI vehicles. No camping will be allowed anywhere on the UI campus, with the exception of RV
parking in the Hancher lot.
At the campground in City Park, amenities will include:
First Aid in Shelter 8
An information booth in Shelter 6
Food trucks
A bike shop/repair station
Showers at and near the City Park Pool
Numerous shuttle stops taking riders to the main
entertainment hub Downtown (about one mile south of the campground)
The University of Iowa also will provide assistance with wayfinding and information from a tent adjacent to Hancher Auditorium, just across Park Road from City Park.
A supplemental RV space will be in Napoleon Park, 2501 S. Gilbert St. on the south edge of Iowa City. Vehicles parking in this area are asked to approach Iowa City from Highway 218 and need to access the site from McCollister Boulevard. This location will include showers, a shuttle stop to entertainment Downtown, and an information booth just south of the park at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area.
Iowa City will be an overnight stop for RAGBRAI on Friday, July 27. RAGBRAI is the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, which this year will begin in Onawa on July 21 and end in Davenport on July 28. The annual event draws about 12,000 cyclists from around the world. The theme is “Book it to Iowa City.”
