Plastic bags no longer taken at East Side Recycling Center
Effective immediately plastic bags will no longer be accepted at City of Iowa City recycling centers.
The market for plastic bags has continued to decline, and the City does not currently have a company that is able to recycle them. Do not place plastic bags in curbside recycling bins or in drop-off site plastic bins as this contaminates the other plastics and causes major issues with equipment.
Single use plastic bags are still accepted at participating grocery stores. Residents are encouraged to instead use reusable bags whenever possible.
