Join us for our Drop Everything and Read Celebration
Drop Everything and Read at an after school reading party at the Library from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12.
National D.E.A.R. Day is celebrated every year on the birthday of beloved children's author Beverly Cleary, who will turn 102 this year! Cleary first introduced D.E.A.R. in her book Ramona Quimby, Age 8.
Join us to play "Pin the Mouse on the Motorcycle," make a Beverly Cleary-inspired bookmark, and then enjoy time for independent, quiet reading.
Totally Tweens Poetry Workshop April 20
Calling Tween poets!
The Iowa City Public Library will host a Totally Tweens Poetry
Workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 20, in the Tween Space.
Tweens
in third through sixth grades are invited to write their own poems and learn
about various poetic forms from haiku, concrete poems, acrostic poems,
limericks, etc. Participants may share their poems aloud with the group if they
wish.
All
materials will be provided and refreshments will be served. A poetry slam will
take place during the last 15 minutes of the workshop; parents and guardians
may attend.
ICPL plans children's storytimes, programs for Earth Day
The best way to celebrate Earth Day is to
add a little more green in your life.
Join us for several Earth Day activities, including a series of
storytimes from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on April 18, 19 and 21. The Library was given
200 seedlings by the Iowa DNR Trees for Kids programs.
One seedling will be provided to each family in attendance at our
Earth Day storytimes, while supplies last.
Come to the Library from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, for a
special Earth Day Sunday Fun Day. Plant herbs from seeds to raise in your house
until it gets warm enough to transfer them outside.
Be sure to bring your creativity
because we also will be decorating custom planters to make your herbs beautiful
before they even sprout!
Mark your calendars: 2018 STEAMfestival on May 5

ICPL’s STEAM Engine Room. The journey will continue as they take part
in hands-on activities provided by more than 10 local organizations and
businesses.
