Loans available to help residents fund home improvements
Most homeowners have a long to-do list of home improvement projects – a new roof, carpeting, replacement windows or even major remodeling. The City may be able to help!
Applications are now being accepted for the General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (GRIP), an income eligible loan program administered by the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Program.
Loans range from $10,000 to $40,000 with repayment set up on a 20-year term of 2.75 percent interest. Qualifying work includes plumbing, electrical, siding, roof, windows, heating, air conditioning, mobile home repair and accessibility improvements.
To receive funding, homeowners must meet the following requirements:
Homes must be located in Iowa City and be a primary residence
Homeowners do not have the financial means to make one or more qualifying repairs
Household income meets guidelines for assistance
There is enough equity in the home to secure a loan
In addition to the loan, the program also provides participants with City staff assistance and support to help with remodeling ideas, selecting a contractor and overseeing the project progress.
