Public Recycling Drop-off at Benton St. Location closed until further notice
Republic Services, the City of Iowa City’s contracted
recycling processing company, experienced a fire in a portion of their facility
on Friday, February 16.This has
impacted their ability to process their normal volume of materials. Due to that, the public drop-off site located on Benton St. will remain closed until further notice. The City encourages residents to use their curbside recycling or
any of the below drop-off site locations for recycling:
East Side Recycling
Center,2401 Scott
Boulevard SE Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Newspaper/magazines/mixed paper/office paper/junk
mail/chipboard/telephone books/hard cover and paperback books, corrugated
cardboard/cartons and aseptic packaging, glass (clear, brown, green), #1
through #5 and #7 plastics, metal cans, plastic grocery bags and film plastic.
Previous Hy-Vee Food
Store location, 1201 North Dodge Street Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, 3900 Hebl Avenue SW 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday

Newspaper, magazines, mixed paper, office paper, junk mail,
chipboard, telephone books, corrugated cardboard, #1 through #5 and #7

Please note: Do not
leave items on the ground at ANY drop-off sites. Items left on the ground at City facilities
will be considered illegal dumping and will be prosecuted to the full extent of
the law.
Commercial Haulers/Businesses:
Republic Services is accepting materials from commercial haulers at the Benton Street facility but does request that commercial haulers call their local sales representative ahead to determine any variations from the normal routine.
