The Iowa City Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred at 3 East Benton Street.
Firefighters responded Friday, February 16th at 16:17 to a report of a business on fire at the corner of Benton and Capital Street.
Initial arriving crews found a business heavily involved with a working interior fire. The fire was under control in approximately 2 hours after arrival. The fire was contained to the building of origin. Damage estimates to the building and contents is not available at this time.
The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by off duty firefighters from Iowa City, fire departments from Coralville, Hills, Riverside, Lone Tree, Swisher, Solon, Tiffin, and West Branch. The Iowa City Fire Department was also assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Water Department, and MidAmerican Energy Company. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
