Join us for a single stream recycling Tweet-along
Single stream recycling is going live in Iowa City - and so are we!
Follow @CityofIowaCity on Twitter for a live Tweet-along to see how single stream works, and the dos and don'ts of recycling in Iowa City. Join us at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 using #ICrecycles.
Use what you learn starting on Monday, Dec. 4 2017, when the City of Iowa City officially transitions to single stream recycling, meaning no more sorting at the curb.
Residents can place all of their recyclables in their current blue recycling container, no need to sort.
The City is accepting the same recyclable materials it always has – no glass and no plastic bags.
The company the City contracts with for recycling does not except either product. Glass is a safety hazard for workers, and plastic bags cause machinery damage when they become stuck in the sorting belts.
