In order to assure safe Bookmobile services for community members and staff, the Library established severe weather guidelines to guide decisions in case of severe weather.
The Bookmobile may be off the road for part or all of the day when there are hazardous driving conditions such as low visibility, heavy rains, excessive wind gusts, and high wind warnings.
The Bookmobile will not operate on days when inclement weather would result in hazardous driving or service conditions, including any day the Iowa City Community School District cancels classes due to weather.
In the event of a Severe Weather Warning when the Bookmobile is on the road, Bookmobile operations will cease and all patrons must exit the vehicle. The Bookmobile will either return to the Downtown parking facility or staff will secure the Bookmobile and seek shelter.
Schedule updates are posted on the Library’s webpage. Schedule information is also available by calling the Library at 319-356-5200.
On the go? Your magazines should be, too!
We don't have magazines on the Bookmobile, but that doesn't mean we can't help you access your favorite!
For more than a year, Coralville
Public Library, Iowa City Public Library and the North Liberty Community
Library have offered a combined digital magazine collection through RBdigital
(formerly known as Zinio) to area residents. These magazines can be read on a
computer, smartphone or tablet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This is a
free library service, but patrons must live in Coralville, Hills, Iowa City,
Lone Tree, North Liberty, University Heights or rural Johnson County, and have
a Library Card from their home library in order to use it. Sign up for a new
RBdigital account here, then find your device on that page to download the
app.
With more than 175 magazine titles
available, everyone will find something they enjoy. To prove this, the Digital
Johnson County libraries – Coralville, Iowa City and North Liberty – will each
give away an iPad Mini to a lucky digital magazine reader in December. To enter
the drawing, go here to sign up, then download and read
five magazines throughout the month of November.
Bookmobile schedule during the holidays
The Bookmobile will have a few schedule changes because of the holidays and the conclusion of our fall operating schedule.

The Bookmobile Fall

Monday, January 8. During the Winter Break, the Bookmobile will have scheduled
service work and be loaded with new collections ready for checkout in the New
Year.
On days when the Bookmobile is not in service, but the Library is open, Holds and may be picked up at the Library. Find more information here.
How the Bookmobile spends Wednesday mornings ...
When you look at our current Bookmobile schedule, our first public stop on Wednesday begins at 3:30 p.m. However, that isn't our first stop of the day.
On Wednesday mornings, the Bookmobile visits several area preschools. This is an additional service for preschools who are already receiving regular visits from an ICPL children’s librarian for monthly storytimes. During these visits,
preschoolers and their families, as well as teachers, have the opportunity to
check out books on the bookmobile.
We love our preschool visits and from the comments we've received, the preschools love them, too! We recently learned that students at Alexander Elementary Preschool love checking out the Bookmobile's collection of children's cookbooks. A teacher told us that one family
made cookies from a recipe in one of the kids cookbooks and brought them in to
share with the class.
Another wonderful story was shared with us by a parent whose son attends Our Redeemer Preschool: he plays Bookmobile at home! First, he tucks his dolls and
stuffed animals into bed, then wakes them up by saying, "Okay, it's time to go to
the bookmobile!" He puts them in a doll stroller and wheels
them over to their family's bookshelves and announcing, "Now we're at the
bookmobile!"
