Lily's Pond at Thornberry Off-leash Dog Park goes solar
Over the last year, Lily’s Pond at Thornberry Off-leash Dog Park has
undergone a major renovation that included dredging and deepening of
the pond, a new dock, and a windmill powered aeration system. Following
the installation of the windmill staff noted that that the amount of wind in the park
was not adequate to turn the windmill consistently. The Iowa City City Council has pinpointed
environmental sustainability as an ongoing priority, and as part of that
effort, the City installed a solar aerator to the system to
power the windmill in June 2017. This project was made possible through a generous in-kind donation by a local resident.
