A mobile household hazardous waste collection
event has been scheduled this Saturday, Oct. 10, at the East Side Recycling
Center, 2401 Scott Blvd. SE in Iowa City. The event, sponsored by the Iowa City
Landfill and Recycling Center, will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. in the center’s
parking lot.
During the event, residents of Iowa City, Johnson County
(communities and rural areas), Kalona and Riverside may dispose of one box of
household hazardous waste per household. Latex paint will not be accepted. For
a complete list of items that will be accepted, visit www.icgov.org/hazardouswaste.
Motor oil may be dropped off at one of two oil-recycling
sheds:East Side Recycling Center, from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days per week, or the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling
Center at 3900 Hebl Avenue, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
All businesses and non-profits, as well as residents with
more than one box of household hazardous waste, should call 319-356-5185 to
make an appointment for disposal at the Iowa City Landfill’s permanent
household hazardous waste collection facility.
