Community Health Assessment Update
Thank you to everyone that completed the 2024 Community Health Survey, Stakeholder Survey, or participated in one of our Community Health Conversations! We will be working to compile all that we learned from you into a report this summer and will present it to the community later this year.
Thank you also to the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation and Hy-Vee for sponsoring our Community Health Conversation in Perry!
First Pitch by Suzanne? You Vote!
This summer, you can vote for your favorite public health friend to stand on the I-Cubs pitcher's mound, hear the roar of the crowd and throw out the first pitch. And guess who is on the ballot? Our very own Suzanne Hegarty-Director of the Dallas County Health Department! Money raised in this fundraiser will support the Iowa Public Health Association. Cast your vote by June 23rd!
Board of Health Position
We are seeking a Dallas County resident with an MD, DO, PA, or ARNP license to serve on the Dallas County Board of Health. The BOH oversees the operations of the Dallas County Health Department. Volunteers are appointed to the BOH by the Board of Supervisors. Learn more about the duties of the BOH and find the volunteer application at DallasCountyIowa.gov. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting to ask questions or explore what the board does. The next meeting of the Board of Health will be June 25th at 7pm at 902 Court St.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
HPAI, or "bird flu", has been in the news lately as it often spreads during migration. The virus has impacted poultry farmers in Iowa and has also been detected in unpasteurized (raw) milk in the U.S. The risk of a HPAI infection in humans is very low. The best way to prevent bird flu is to avoid sources of exposure. Refrain from drinking raw milk and talk to your employer about biosecurity measures if working in a poultry setting. In the rare chance a Dallas County resident becomes ill, the Health Department team is prepared to provide guidance and support to ill individuals.
