April 3-9, 2023 is National Public Health Week! During this time we celebrate all the efforts to protect our community from hazards to our health, to prevent the spread of disease, and to promote equitable opportunities for us all to be healthy.
The Dallas County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation declaring Public Health Week in Dallas County. Read the full proclamation at DallasCountyIowa.gov.

2023 County Health Rankings Released
The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps has released their report for 2023. These rankings are released annually and are based on Health Factors including health behaviors, clinical care, the physical environment, and social and economic factors as well as Health Outcomes like quality of life and life expectancy.
In 2023, Dallas County was ranked 3rd in Iowa. Dallas County has many strengths listed. Some areas to explore for potential health improvement include adult smoking, adult obesity, excessive drinking, and social associations. These topics are all addressed in our 2023-2025 Community Health Improvement Plan for Dallas County. The report also notes that while less than the state average, Dallas County is trending in the wrong direction for sexually transmitted infections.

New Location for STD Testing Clinic
Through partnership with Polk County Health Department and Primary Health Care, Free STD testing is available to anyone in Dallas County. The monthly STD clinic is able to test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, trichomoniasis, and hepatitis C. Testing is also available with your primary health care provider.
Beginning in May, the STD testing clinic will be located at the Dallas County Health Department. The Redfield testing location will be discontinued. There will be no clinic in April.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Are you prepared to intervene when a young person in your life is struggling? Join Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Dallas County and Dallas County Health Department on April 21st to develop skills to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems and help connect youth with care. The intended audience for this training is adults who work with youth (ages 6-18).

Illness Reporting In Iowa
Being April 1, Iowa HHS will no longer require positive COVID-19 test results be reported and the public dashboard will be removed. COVID-19 surveillance data will now be integrated into the weekly Iowa Respiratory Virus Surveillance Report beginning April 7th. This report also contains information on Influenza and other respiratory viruses like RSV, Rhinovirus, and more.

Continuous Coverage Unwind
The Medicaid program continuous coverage requirement ends April 1, 2023. Iowa HHS has already begun mailing out information to members outlining the steps they will need to take to renew their Medicaid eligibility.

Office Closure
Dallas County offices, including the Health Department, will be closed Friday, April 7th for the spring holiday. Regular business hours will resume Monday, April 10th.
