Seeking Osprey Monitors
DCCB is looking for volunteers to monitor Osprey nests. No experience necessary, only a willingness to learn. Osprey are an eagle-sized, fish-eating bird of prey that vanished from Iowa before European settlement. They were reintroduced in the late 1990’s and are now expanding their range. For the last 3 years, a nesting pair has been on a cell phone tower southwest of Woodland Hills Elementary, West Des Moines. A second nest was attempted last year south of Yale, west of Bays Branch. If you are interested in monitoring either site e-mail Mike Havlik for more information. Come experience first-hand a conservation success story.
