ICN has strengthened the state’s cybersecurity posture by integrating new Optical Test Access Points (TAPs) from Gigamon. This infrastructure upgrade marks a step forward in enhancing its Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Mitigation Platform and overall network visibility for Iowa’s critical services.
By connecting directly to the fiber optic infrastructure, the TAPs ingest traffic at various Network points, then aggregate that data into the Gigamon platform for network visibility.
This upgrade included replacing legacy hardware with new units that can tap into our 100 Gigabit (Gb) connections. While the previous platform was limited to 10 Gb links, this increase in capacity allows ICN to filter high-speed data for security threats—keeping Iowa’s critical infrastructure safe through enhanced situational awareness.
ICN successfully completed equipment upgrades in Mason City, Garner, Algona, and Estherville, providing a dedicated 10 Gb connection at each of these key aggregation sites along Highway 18.
This 10 Gb upgrade ensures that rural Iowa schools and hospitals have the same high-speed reliability as urban centers.
We have completed upgrades at 96 locations thus far. Work is currently progressing at 15 additional sites.
🛡️We are thrilled to share some fantastic feedback regarding our team’s recent work. At ICN, our goal is to provide seamless upgrades that strengthen our customers' defenses without disrupting daily operations.
