These Day-Week-Month Celebrations
The month of June likely owes its name to Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage, fertility and childbirth. In ancient Rome, Juno was celebrated as the guardian of women and a symbol of family and fresh starts, all leading to June becoming a popular month for weddings.
In our time, the month of June boasts Father’s Day, Flag Day, and the summer solstice. June is the launch of summer reading programs at many public libraries. And this year, June 2025 marks this milestone: the 50th anniversary of the movie Jaws!
If you have any display space available or room in your newsletters or social media promos, here are a few more ideas to celebrate June 😊
- June 10 National Ice Tea Day
- June 11 Corn-on-the-Cob Day
- June 20 Take Your Dog to Work Day
- June 21 World Day of Music
- June 1-7 Pet Appreciation Week
- June 9-15 National Men’s Health Week
- National Camping Month
- National Safety Month
Your collection will surely have connecting books and movies to add to the mix and voila—a fresh June display!

Meeting Rooms Now Called Spaces
This update regarding WhoFi’s Meeting Room feature is thanks to Ashleigh Matos, WhoFi’s Partner Advocate. Ashleigh shares this that Meeting Rooms now has a new name—Spaces.
Ashleigh writes “Why the change? Over time, we’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the incredible variety of environments that libraries make available to their patrons, multiple spaces that benefit from taking reservations. Libraries reserve maker spaces, recording studios, study rooms, outdoor gardens, traditional meeting rooms, and more for both patrons and internal programs. Each space is designed to support different forms of learning, collaboration, and engagement. These aren’t just meeting rooms. They’re flexible, purpose-driven spaces that reflect the unique needs of each community.”
One improvement in what is now called “Spaces” is that the new name now appears on your dashboard. All your existing reservations, settings, and data remain unchanged. The new features of Spaces brings a new interface that allows for easier management and more flexibility in reserving the many spaces that libraries are making available to their communities.
As always, the staff at WhoFi would love to hear what customers think about this most recent change and other changes. Plus, the WhoFi staff is like none other—they are very open to suggestions from you—the users—about new features and enhancements that you’d like to see someday. Ashleigh writes “We’re grateful to the libraries that inspired this update. Your creativity and community leadership continue to shape how we build our services. Your questions and feedback help in shaping best practices that benefit libraries across the country…fostering a stronger library community. As always, we’re here to support you—and we’re excited to see how you’ll use Spaces next!”

Deadline June 20th
Last week’s Eye-Opener included this news about Enrich Iowa. The FY26 Enrich Iowa Letter of Agreement are ready to sign; note the deadline for returning them this year is June 20.
Note also that with this year and moving forward, the Enrich Iowa Program's annual process will align with the close of the legislative session. This means that the Letters of Agreement will become accessible once the state budget is set and the Iowa Legislature adjourns (typically in May) This timing change will ensure that the appropriation for Enrich Iowa is confirmed by the Legislature for the upcoming fiscal year. The rest of the program timeline will not be affected.
Remember that Enrich Iowa comprises three distinct programs, witth reimbursement awarded to lending libraries in (1) Open Access and (2) SILO-ILL. Public libraries also receive funding for meeting standards via the (3) Direct State Aid program.
Amy Rollinger with the State Law Library sent an email to all public library directors on May 15th regarding this news. If you did not receive that email or if you have questions about the program, you’re welcome to contact Amy at Amy.Rollinger@iowa.gov or 515-281-5125. Our thanks for returning your EI Letter of Agreement soon!
