Each November, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) takes the lead in recognizing National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month. This month-long, nationwide campaign gives awareness and reaffirms the commitment in keeping our nation’s critical infrastructure secure and resilient.
The ICN is doing its part in keeping the Iowa fiber optic infrastructure secure and reliable. The ICN's critical infrastructure in Iowa supports local public safety answering points (PSAPs), K-12 schools and higher education institutions, healthcare facilities, and much more. High school students from all over Iowa gathered for the first Youth Cyber Summit on October 12 at Iowa State University. This interactive learning experience allowed young cyber enthusiasts to connect with current undergraduate and graduate students from ISU, as well as alumni. Much of the information presented echoed a similar theme: find your passion and stay engaged in learning.
The students participated in several activities, including a capture the flag event where they tackled hacking challenges. Another classroom included one-on-one security demos that covered a variety of subjects that examined the connection between cybersecurity and physical security, including RFID (Radio-frequency identification) security awareness, lock picking, wireless routing with public IP traffic, and more.
