WorkDay Learning Tips

After about 2 months making the move from our former learning management software IALearns to our new platform—WorkDay Learning—we’re now up and running with the new software.  And by all measures, things are looking good!  Accounts are in tact, users are seeing the classes they’ve taken, and discovering upcoming webinars to enjoy.

Continuing Education Consultant Samantha Bouwers has developed impressive expertise with WorkDay Learning and offers these tips for users looking to gain the most from this new system.  Here are Sam's top tips for today, with more following next week:

To Find Courses In WorkDay Learning:

  • Find the "Learning" app
  • Choose "Discover" (look in the links on the left-hand side of the page)
  • Click "Browse Learning" (bright blue button in the middle of the screen)
  • Or just click here to be taken directly to the "Browse Learning Content" feature in Workday

To Register For Courses In Workday: from the course description page, click "Select Offering" to confirm date and time—and also to register.

Find ZOOM Links For Webinars: ZOOM links will come via a calendar invitation once you register for a course; room links can also be accessed as one of the course "Lessons" in Workday Learning.

And this reminder: there's an updated WorkDay Learning FAQ page
linked below with answers to good questions from WorkDay users 😊

New Endorsement Modules Available

Trauma-Informed Library Practices

Today, important news from the Library Endorsement world 😊 All-new Endorsement Modules on Trauma-Informed Library Practices have launched in WorkDay Learning.  These new modules are designed to help library workers address high-needs patrons, along with creating healthy work environments.

Trauma-Informed Library Practices includes two separate sets of modules: one for staff in administrative or supervisory roles and one for non-administrative staff.  This self-directed learning opportunity can be completed at your staff’s convenience.

If you’ve completed any Endorsement or are working on another one, be sure to check the option “Change or Add to My Endorsement” on the application form so you don’t end up with duplicated coursework.

Reflective Practice Groups

There is room for more people in the Reflective Practice Groups, which are part of the Trauma Informed Library Practices grant project that kicked off a few weeks ago.  These goups, facilitated by Alyssa Caldbeck (MSW / LISW) focus on creating a safe space to share and reflect on personal experiences at work, gain support from others in similar roles, and continuously learn new perspectives and skills. Six different groups are meeting monthly through the end of the grant project. Find out more and sign up for a group that’s right for you at the button below

ILOC

Save the Date, Submit a Session Idea

The State Library CE Team is ramping up and making plans for ILOC 2025--that's the Iowa Libraries Online Conference.  We have a date and we have a theme: January 30th is the date, “Access, Adapt, Act: Making Evaluation Count” is the theme.  This is an annual day of online learning is complete with keynote speakers, several breakout sessions, and ample continuing education credits.

The ILOC Conference is noted for showcasing Iowa library staff sharing their experience and expertise.  The 2025 theme focuses on evaluation and asks why we collect statistics, why we evaluate our efforts, how we can make stats and evaluations most useful.

Eye-Opener readers are encouraged to submit a proposal to be considered for a breakout session. Ideas for presentation topics can include:

  • Using IMLS statistics, B&T Connect, or the State Library “Big Book of Stats” to make changes in your library’s hours, programming audiences, etc
  • Approaching county supervisors for county funding increases based on comparisons with county funding levels across the state
  • Designing infographics as a new approach to budget presentations to cities and counties
  • Using census numbers hrough the State Data Center to illustrate community demographics as part of strategic planning
  • Analyzing stats from your own ILS-automation system to make changes in collection development

The ILOC Call For Proposals is open through November 25th.
Read more about ILOC and find a Google Form to submit your proposal
at the button below.  Thanks in advance, good luck to all 😊
