About All Iowa Reads
Established in 2003, the purpose of All Iowa Reads is to foster a sense of community through reading. Iowans are encouraged to come together in their communities to read and talk about a single book in the same calendar year. All Iowa Reads consists of three programs, each with one title chosen per year: one for adults, one for teens ages 12-18, and one for kids ages 8-12.
Libraries, book clubs, schools and other local organizations are encouraged to sponsor discussions of the titles. The AIR webpage includes information for current and past selections, as well as materials including book reviews, discussion questions, author bios, and publicity materials to help you and your local book clubs prepare successful discussions.
Contact Janeé Jackson-Doering or Helen Dagley at the State Library with questions and use the link below to register for the AIR 2024 Virtual Author Talks!

ILA Leadership Institute This Summer Applications Open Through May 3rd
For many years, the Iowa Library Association has sponsored a Leadership Development Institute aimed at library managers and supervisors, as well as support staff. This year’s Leadership Institute is scheduled for July 31—August 2 at the Gateway Conference Center in Ames.
This year’s event will be led by Iowa consultant Heather Woody, who will speak to opportunities and issues for library leaders today, including working in multi-generational environments and managing difficult conversations. Event organizers write “…Heather Woody's expertise in leadership development is sure to offer valuable insights and guidance to attendees, making this event a must-attend for professionals seeking to enhance their leadership skills.”
Space is limited and potential attendance is handled through an application process. Applications are made easier if you have a Google account. Letters of reference are also required. If selected, the conference cost is $300.00 to save your space. The fee includes the hotel room cost and most meals, all other costs are covered by the Institute’s sponsors. Applications are open until through May 3rd.
More From Event Organizers
From ILA’s website, event planners write: “This institute is not just for library managers and directors. We emphasize that leadership is cultivated from within. Are you someone who aspires to take on more challenges? Have you found yourself thrust into a leadership role with little guidance or safety net? Give yourself the opportunity to spend quality time meditating on the kind of leader you want to be. This event promises to be an enlightening, enriching, and transformative experience. With 2 ½ days of inspiration, reflection, and networking, this is a must-attend event for library professionals seeking to enhance their leadership skills.”
