November is Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month
Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month is a nationwide effort to raise awareness and reaffirm the commitment to keep our nation’s critical infrastructure secure and resilient.
Our future will be changed by extreme weather patterns, persistent threats from cyberattacks and physical attacks, and technological breakthroughs. We can do our part by reducing the impact of attacks by building resilience into our infrastructure and culture. Randy Goddard Announces Retirement
After 10 years of active duty in the Navy and 30 years serving the State of Iowa, Randy Goddard has announced his retirement from the ICN to be effective on December 27.
Goddard has been in management positions with the State of Iowa throughout his career. He started his career with the ICN as the Operations Bureau Chief in 1995. He moved to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in 2004 to be the Communications and Infrastructure Bureau Chief. In 2016 he returned to the ICN to serve as the Business Services Bureau Chief, and was selected to take on the role of ICN Executive Director in September 2020.
The Iowa Telecommunications and Technology Commission, which oversees the ICN and is responsible for appointing the Executive Director, will be discussing the next steps at an upcoming meeting.

Peer to Career Update
We are working closely with the Ottumwa Job Corps Center to connect upcoming network cabling technicians with telecommunications companies. The student trainees are learning from representatives in the industry and are being introduced to the fields of networking and telecommunications. Highlights from a few of our speakers are shown below.

Fiberutilities Network Services
They highlighted training for both inside and outside plant skills, their network field technician and immediate response roles, and emphasized soft skills that can be beneficial for all employees in the field.

Panduit
The trainees gained knowledge of the following markets that Panduit serves: Construction Environments, Enterprise Systems, Data Center Facilities, and Industrial Operations. Additionally, they discovered what makes Panduit special and how training and mentorship is integrated into their culture.

RHT Technologies
They learned about the technician and installer responsibilities, what to expect on the job site, reading and understanding architectural prints, and applicable standards and practices. Ron also highlighted comprehensive training from the learning academy and BICSI training.
|

Internet2 News for K-12 Education
Free, Interactive Webinars; Sign-up Today!
The Presidential Primary Sources Project is a series of free, interactive, standards-aligned webinars to connect classrooms in grades 4-12 to historians at presidential museums and historic sites. Students will interact directly with experts to learn about presidents like Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Theodore Roosevelt. Made possible through a partnership between Internet2 and the National Park Service, the series runs from January through April every year.
*All programs are live at 11 a.m. ET and 2 p.m. ET on their scheduled days and applicable to students in grades 4-12.
