The Iowa Department of Human Rights (DHR) brings strength to Iowa's rich heritage.  Our three divisions - Community Action Agencies, Community Advocacy and Services, and Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning - work to reduce cultural, social, and economic barriers to opportunities for Iowans to succeed.




Youth Leadership Academy 

The Youth Leadership Academy is an opportunity for students with disabilities ages 14-21, to build valuable leadership skills this Summer. Be sure to attend the Informational Session on May 24th to learn more about this exciting academy!

Summer Career Academy for the

Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing

Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services is hosting the First Summer Career Academy for the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing youth, aged 14-17 yrs old at the University of Iowa. This immersive opportunity runs from Monday July 17th to Friday July 21st. Students must be IVRS, or Iowa Dept. for the Blind Eligible to attend. Click this link to register.

Funding Opportunities - Juvenile Delinquency Prevention           

The Iowa Department of Human Rights has two funding opportunities:    

  • Juvenile Delinquency Prevention - Pre-Charge Diversion (#501801)
  • Juvenile Delinquency Prevention - Services for Black Girls (#501789) 

The application due date is April 28, 2023.  Additional details can be found at iowagrants.gov.  Funding for awarded programs is made available by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
