Application Deadline Approaching - WTFAP Grant

Application Now Available for Wastewater and Drinking Water Treatment Financial Assistance Program

The Wastewater and Drinking Water Treatment Financial Assistance Program (WTFAP) provides grants of up to $500,000 for wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects. There is approximately $6 million available for eligible projects in the 2022 funding round. 

Grants will be awarded to water and wastewater projects based on the following priorities:

  • Disadvantaged communities

  • Projects that will significantly improve water quality in their watershed

  • Projects that use alternative wastewater treatment technologies (all projects proposing alternative technologies must be approved by DNR)

  • Communities with the highest sewer or water rates

  • Projects that use technology to address nutrient reduction

  • Projects that will improve source waters for drinking water utilities

Applications are due October 28, 2022. The application can be found on the Water Quality Resources web page.

Grant awardees are determined by a committee consisting of the Secretary of Agriculture (or designee), the Executive Director of Iowa Finance Authority (or designee) and the Director of the Department of Natural Resources (or designee).

Operator Certification: Continuing Education Opportunities

Online and virtual training opportunities are being created and offered through community colleges, state industry associations, national industry associations, EPA, and other state industry partners. All operators should continue to monitor their emails and the Training Calendar on the Iowa DNR Operator Certification Database. Look at the calendar often, as there are new opportunities posted throughout the week.
