The Iowa Department of Human Rights (DHR) brings strength to Iowa's rich heritage. Our three divisions - Community Action Agencies, Community Advocacy and Services, and Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning - work to reduce cultural, social, and economic barriers to opportunities for Iowans to succeed.
Nominations Open for Iowa Latino Hall of Fame
Each year the Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs honors and inducts the following into the Iowa Latino Hall of Fame:
- up to three Latinos, Latinas, or Latinxs;
- a recipient of the Iowa Latinx Youth Leadership Award;
- a recipient of the Robert D. Ray Award for Equity and Justice; and
- a recipient (BIPOC) of the Iowa LGBTQIA Leadership Award.
The Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs will accept nominations for the 2022 Iowa Latino Hall of Fame until July 1, 2022.

Latino Resource Fair of Central Iowa
The Iowa Department of Human Rights' Office of Latino Affairs and the Iowa Spanish Helpline invite you to the Latino Resource Fair for the Latino communities in Central Iowa.
Date: June 4, 2022 - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Location: West Terrace, Iowa State Capitol Grounds

There will be resources from community organizations; Latino food for sale; children's activities; COVID-19 vaccination clinic; and capitol building tours in Spanish at 11:00 AM and at 1:00 PM.

Interactive Court Forms
Iowa Interactive Court Forms is a free program offered by the Iowa Judicial Branch to help persons without attorneys create court forms. The interactive court forms are specifically designed to improve access to justice for people without legal representation. The program provides helpful information about the court process in plain language and uses a question-and-answer format to prepare approved court forms. When completed, the user is given instructions on printing, signing, and filing the documents with the court. Either party can use the program in a case.
The current list of available forms includes:
- Divorce without children/Divorico sin hijos (English and Spanish)
- Child Support Modification, with access to a child support calculator (English)
- Small claims actions (English)
- Name changes (English)
- Fee waivers (English)

Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic
If you are a low-income taxpayer who needs help in resolving a tax dispute with the Internal Revenue Service and cannot afford representation, you may qualify for free or low-cost assistance from Iowa Legal Aid's Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). You may call Iowa Legal Aid at 1-800-532-1275 for details and assistance. Information about LITCs and the work they do to represent, educate and advocate on behalf of low-income and ESL taxpayers is available in IRS Publication 5066, LITC Program Report. IRS Publication 4134.
Iowa PBS's High School Mentorship Program
The Iowa Public Broadcasting Service (Iowa PBS) offers a High School Minority Mentorship Program to broaden opportunities for minority high school students. Minority and/or female students in Iowa may apply to experience firsthand the world of television production and public media. Visit Iowa PBS to learn more.
2022 Youth Leadership Academy
The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) provides an opportunity for youth with disabilities to learn leadership skills.

Iowa Youth Congress
The Iowa Department of Human Rights is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 term of Iowa Youth Congress program. Iowa Youth Congress is a diverse and dynamic group made of up to 100 high school aged youth who will get hands-on experience, training, and knowledge in the areas of state government, leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement. Applications are due June 3, 2022.

State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council
The State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC) is a statutory council that fosters communication among a group of engaged youth and the Governor, General Assembly, and other community leaders regarding programs, policies, and practices affecting youth and families. SIYAC advocates for youth on important issues and solutions affecting youth.
The Iowa Department of Human Rights is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 term of the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC). SIYAC is composed of 21 youth from across Iowa, ages 14-20. The application and 2 letters of recommendation are due June 3, 2022.
