This Week in Webinars

There’s an impressive number of State Library webinars this week leading up to Thanksgiving.  So before next week's holiday break, here's a reminder of program options this week.  Register for one or all classes, there’s plenty here for all audiences, including an evening program for library trustees.

November 16.  JobNow/VetNow Webinar. 10:30-11:30AM

Register today for one more Brainfuse webinar covering JobNow / VetNow features available to patrons of Iowa public libraries. This includes demonstrations of JobNow’s Live Career Help and VetNow’s Veterans' Assistance.  Demos will also include a look at asynchronous expert help services like the Resume Lab and Send Question center, along with the variety of resources available to job seekers and veterans’ programs, including information about veterans’ healthcare, housing, education, and more…

November 17. Acting on Input: The Results. 10:00-11:00AM

"Acting on Input" has been a three-part series this fall.  Wednesday’s third installment looks at how to turn the feedback from focus groups and surveys into action plans. State Library consultants Becky Heil and Bonnie McKewon will share how Iowa libraries acted on community input and offer suggestions on how to communicate notable achievements to the very people who provided the “input” part!

November 17. The Boardroom: The Key to the City. 6:00-7:30PM

With city elections wrapping up in early November and new city officials and/or administrations on the horizon, now is a great time to be thinking about good communication habits between the library board and its partners in city government. Drawing on over 45 years of experience in public administration, Patrick Callahan, of Callahan Municipal Consultants, will highlight best practices for library boards and cities as they work together to better their communities.

We'll be reminded about the library board's role and a city's role in running a library, hear stories from both sides about what contributes to a successful working relationship, and be encouraged to start good communication habits. This session will be beneficial to communities of all sizes and newly appointed trustees or experienced board members.

November 19.  Big Ideas Book Discussion: Rituals Roadmap. 9:30-11:00AM

The fourth and final title in Big Ideas Book Discussions for this year is Rituals Roadmap: The Human Way to Transform Everyday Routines Into Workplace Magic by Erica Keswin (c2021) From the author of Bring Your Human to Work, Keswin’s latest book Rituals Roadmap is a guidebook for boosting workplace morale, showing how using workplace rituals can build stronger connections among staff and more enjoyment in their work.  So with the holidays just ahead—complete with holiday traditions—this is good timing to talk about traditions in our work lives.  We encourage participants to purchase books used throughout the Big Ideas series for your own collections. The calendar pages are also customizable with each containing a designated spot to add your library’s logo and contact information.  This calendar is available for purchase through the ALA Online Store, where you’ll also find Every Child Ready to Read brochures in bundles of 100 to distribute to families.  Learn more about the Every Child Ready to Read project at the button below
