State Library Launches New Endorsement Program and Academy
The State Library is excited to announce the launch of the new Endorsement program and Endorsement Academy for Iowa public library directors and staff!
The Endorsement program replaces the Certification program for directors and staff, while the Endorsement Academy will offer the same high-quality training that was in the Public Library Management 1 and 2 courses for library directors, as well as the Public Library Support course for library staff, in a redesigned, self-paced format.
The Endorsement Academy, which is completed entirely in IA Learns, starts with two prerequisites, including a technology assessment and an overview of the program. The Academy then moves on to a series of “core four” courses to establish the fundamentals of librarianship in Iowa. Following the “core four,” librarians can explore tracks on different topics including policy development, budget and finance, youth services, and more, in order to meet the requirements of their specific Endorsement level. The courses are entirely self-paced, and Continuing Education staff will soon begin offering a monthly online discussion for Academy enrollees on a rotating core courses topic.
Enroll in the Endorsement Academy
The first step for librarians interested in enrolling in the Endorsement Academy is to complete an application for a new Endorsement or renewal. CE staff will then enroll the librarian into the appropriate courses in the Endorsement Academy and the librarian can work at their own pace to complete the modules and courses. (Note: Librarians who previously completed PLM1 and were waiting to complete PLM2 to become certified should have received an email regarding their status and instructions for continuing on with the Endorsement program.)
