Prison inmate Kevin McDonnell dies

IOWA CITY – Kevin John McDonnell was pronounced dead, likely due to complications related to COVID-19 and other preexisting medical conditions at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. McDonnell was 63 years old at the time of his death. Prior to hospitalization, he had originally been incarcerated at the Newton Correctional Facility. 

McDonnell had been serving a 25-year sentence for the crime of Sex Abuse 2nd Degree from Muscatine County. His sentence began on April 25, 2008.
