Air Quality permits under review

DES MOINES – The DNR Air Quality Bureau has the following draft permits up for review. The permits help protect Iowans’ health and air quality. DNR’s permitting staff review each permit application to ensure facilities comply with state and federal air quality requirements. We encourage public comments on draft permits, providing help on how to make effective comments. Submit written comments to the assigned permit writer before 4:30 p.m. on the last day of the comment period. DNR considers public comments before finalizing the permits.

Construction Permits
DNR engineers review and issue construction permits to facilities before they build new or modify existing sources of air pollution. The public may review the following air quality construction permits available online at www.iowadnr.gov/airpermitsearch OR through the EASY Air Public Inquiry Portal and then click the Public Notice tab.

Public comment period announced for Section 401 Water Quality Certification regional permits

DES MOINES -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking for public comment on the certification of new U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Regional Permits 40 and 41. 

In accordance with state and federal statutes and regulations, applicants seeking authorization under Section 404 of the federal Clean Water Act from the Corps must also have a Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certification (401 WQC) for authorization to discharge to waters of the United States. 

Regional permit 40 (RP 40) authorizes fill material placed in waters of the United States for bank stabilization activities. Regional permit 41 (RP 41) authorizes the placement of fill materials into waters of the United States for commercial and institutional developments. The Corps’ RP 40, RP 41 and DNR’s 401 Water Quality Certifications can be viewed at https://www.iowadnr.gov/Environmental-Protection/Water-Quality/Wetlands-Permitting.

Written comments regarding the certifications can be submitted until 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23.
