P2 Intern Program Suspended

2019 Interns

Due to uncertainties related to the novel coronavirus, the Iowa Pollution Prevention Intern Program has been suspended for the summer of 2020. The Pollution Prevention (P2) Services team will be continuing to follow up on previous projects and provide resources to support implementation and track results. Indoor Air Quality: Best Practices

In light of the current situation, indoor air quality (IAQ) has become a focal point of commercial and industrial buildings. Having sufficient IAQ is standard practice, but how does a facility go above and beyond? Here are some best practices to get you started:

  • Ensure filters are getting changed regularly. Develop a schedule for filters to get changed. If you notice filters getting dirtier in a shorter amount of time, change them sooner and adjust your maintenance schedule.
  • Control the pollution source. Utilizing ventilation and opening windows/doors when possible is an easy way to increase air circulation in a space. Also utilizing vents or fans that exhaust to the outdoors can increase ventilation and reduce pollutants in the space.
  • Monitor the humidity. Higher humidity can increases moisture which can be a breeding ground for mold and other contaminants. Keeping the humidity levels lower can also make the air in the building less stuffy and employees happier.

Here are some resources to make your IAQ go from good to great!
