Sample Bottle Shipment: Ensure Delivery Site Access

Some environmental laboratories have reported that sample bottle shipments to water and wastewater operators were returned to the lab because the delivery location was closed. The DNR Lab Certification program is advising all operators to check the delivery location in their community to make sure it is open for deliveries and to contact their laboratory with updated information as necessary.

Operator Certification Examinations Suspended

Reminder that all water and wastewater operator certification examinations are on hold until further notice at this time.  When the examination sites are re-opened, we will put out the word immediately so the examinations can be scheduled.

EPA’s Proposed Regulatory Determination (RegDet 4)

In the March 10th Federal Register (.pdf), EPA published the proposed regulatory determination for eight contaminants, and updates for three others.  A positive regulatory determination, which means EPA has determined to regulate the contaminant, was made for two chemicals: perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS).  A negative determination, meaning EPA has determined national regulation is not warranted, has been made for six chemicals: acetochlor, 1,1-dichloroethane, bromomethane (methyl bromide), metolachlor, nitrobenzene, and 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX).

Three contaminants need additional information: 1,4-dioxane, strontium, and 1,2,3-trichloropropane.  EPA is seeking comments on the proposal, which are due May 11th.

A note on Iowa DNR and COVID-19

In another effort to further reduce the spread of COVID-19, the DNR is encouraging the use of the online services for submitting applications, payments and other daily tasks and interaction with DNR staff.

We thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time. If you need to contact DNR staff you can reach them by email or phone or by calling 515-725-8200.
