Celebrate and Enjoy State Parks in February!

Warm up outside with these fun events across state parks. Find one near you:


3rd Annual Fat Tire Classic at Lake Macbride - February 15

The 3rd Annual Lake Macbride Fat Tire Classic Bike race and ride will take riders around scenic Lake Macbride. Riders can choose a 15-mile or 30-mile route. Bikes need to be equipped with 3.5 inch or greater tires.

Sponsored by the Solon Centennial Lions Club and Sugar Bottom Bikes. Registration closes online on Feb. 11, but is still available on race day.

Family Nature Events at Springbrook State Park - February 22

Join Springbrook State Park staff for two events on Saturday, February 22.

At 10 a.m., build "make and take" suet bird feeders at Springbrook's For the Birds event.

Spend your afternoon on a hike using GPS technology to navigate geological and historical sites in the park at CSA 163 Discovering Prehistory, Geology and Fossils with GPS. More details can be found on the Parks 2020 calendar.


Island Hike at Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - February 23

Combat those winter blues with a hike led by park staff to the island at Brushy Creek State Recreation Area. A short walk will lead to Taylor Island. Hike up and enjoy the views of the lake. Meet at the boat ramp at 2 p.m.

Brushy Creek near Fort Dodge is one of Iowa's largest parks, with plenty of space for winter fun! Learn more!


Save the Date: Memorial Day Weekend reservation window opens soon!

For campers interested in spending Memorial Day weekend in a state park, the three-month window to reserve a campsite opens Saturday, February 22.

Memorial Day weekend will be May 22 through May 25. Now is a good time to start planning an overnight stay to a state park this summer.

Information on Iowa’s state parks is available online including the link to make reservations. Campers can also log on directly to the reservation site.
