Meet Our Summer Interns

Summer Interns

Meet our summer interns, Ana Mier (right) and Alexandra Foster (left), from the US Latino/a/x Studies at Iowa State University.

Ana Mier

A Latina student originally from Charleston, IL. She is a senior at Iowa State University. Ana will graduate with a degree in English. In her internship she was seeking to connect with the Iowa Latinx communities.

About the internship: "Being in this setting reveals the process of systemic change; the patience it takes, the persistence it requires."

In her own words: " The internship has taught me to become more mindful of how I choose to serve my community."

Alexandra Foster

Alex is originally from Oskaloosa, Iowa. She is a senior at Iowa State University. Alex will graduate with a degree in Spanish.

About the internship:  “I've learned how I can get more involved in government.”

In her own words: "The work that we've done in the office will affect my work elsewhere by providing me with the opportunity to connect with people in person. We have reached out to Latino business owners and simply listened to their journey, which isn't something I'd probably do if I hadn't had this experience."
