 Innovative Libraries Online Conference (ILOC)
Thursday, January 17, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
With their commitment to meeting citizen needs, libraries seek ways to serve and strengthen their communities. Sometimes, however, the needs rise beyond the conventional realm of library service. Through the strength of non-traditional partnerships, libraries offer innovative solutions to a variety of challenges in their communities. Libraries can become the place for citizens to help shape the community’s future and participate in decision making.
Our morning keynote is Ryan Dowd, the Executive Director of a large homeless shelter outside of Chicago, Illinois. He regularly travels the country training libraries, police departments, schools and other organizations on how to work compassionately with difficult homeless individuals. Our evening keynote is Gary Krob, State Data Coordinator in Iowa.
Keep your eye on the conference website for more information as it is available, including information about other sessions throughout the day.

 All Iowa Reads Webinar
Wednesday, January 23, 10:00 a.m. - noon
The 2019 All Iowa Reads title is a joint selection between Iowa’s program and Nebraska’s One Book One Nebraska program: This Blessed Earth: A Year in the Life of an American Family Farm by Ted Genoways.
“The family farm lies at the heart of our national identity, yet its future is in peril. Far from an isolated refuge beyond the reach of global events, the family farm is increasingly at the crossroads of emerging technologies and international détente. Ted Genoways explores this rapidly changing landscape of small, traditional farming operations, mapping as it unfolds day to day.”
In this webinar, the author and members of the AIR committee will provide an in-depth commentary about the story, identify topics and themes important to librarians planning their own discussions, and will take questions from the audience.
