DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig today encouraged
Iowa farmers and agribusiness professionals to consider applying for a Nuffield
International Scholarship. The program
allows participants to travel internationally for a minimum of 16 weeks over an
18 month period researching agricultural production, distribution, management
and/or communication.
A Nuffield International Scholarship supported by
the Iowa Pork Producers Association and Iowa Soybean Association
is open specifically for those involved in Iowa agriculture. There are
also two nationwide scholarships that Iowans would be eligible to receive.
The application deadline for this scholarship is Oct. 15,
2018. More information about the
application process can be found at http://nuffieldinternational.org.
“The Nuffield International Scholarship Program gives
farmers and agribusiness leaders the unique opportunity to travel around the
world and research relevant and important agriculture issues. Iowa has a scholar
currently participating in the program and I encourage other ag leaders in the
state to learn more about the program and consider applying,” Naig said.
Nuffield Scholarships will be awarded to leading farmers
and agri-professionals for the 2019/20 program. Upon selection, Nuffield
Scholars will travel the world, participating in both large and small group
study tours along with individual research experiences linked to their
preferred study topic of choice.
The Nuffield Scholarship was developed in 1947 by
entrepreneur Mr. William Morris of the United Kingdom as post-war strategy to
stimulate progressive farmers to increase food production and rebuild economy. There
are approximately 1800 Nuffield Scholars worldwide, forming a powerful network
of global-thinking agriculturalists that have committed to life-long learning
and contributions to the prosperity of the sector and society.
