Iowa Solar Energy System Tax Credit Application Deadline is May 1 & Cap is Nearly Reached

May 1, 2018, is the Iowa Solar Energy System Tax Credit application deadline for 2017 installations. If you installed a solar system during calendar year 2017, go to https://taxcredit.iowa.gov/ and fill out your Solar Energy System Tax Credit application now.  

Due to the high demand of this credit, the 2017 award cap of $5 million was met last fall. Out of the $5 million 2018 award cap, $4.6 million has been requested. Applications should be submitted right away and are approved on a first-come, first-served basis.

After the May 1 deadline, the Department will begin issuing tax credit awards for the 2018 tax year. Once the 2018 cap is reached, the remaining applications will be on the 2019 award wait-list if the Legislature maintains the tax credit.
