IowaWORKS Hosts Successful Hiring Event for Kraft/Heinz
Open Interviews Being Held Today for Remaining Positions
DAVENPORT – More than 260 job seekers attended a hiring fair for Kraft/Heinz on Feb. 13 at the IowaWORKS Center in Davenport. Kraft/Heinz officials conducted on-the-spot interviews and made job offers during the daylong event. The company was hiring primarily production workers for its second and third shifts. The efficient process allowed the new hires to begin orientation on Monday, Feb. 19.
Kraft/Heinz is holding open interviews today until 4 p.m. to fill the remaining positions. The interviews are at UFCW Local 410 Hall, 2411 W. Central Park Ave. in Davenport. Through the events, Kraft/Heinz has been able to fill a majority of its 200 openings.
Leann Zinn, Senior HR Manager - Manufacturing from Kraft/Heinz, described the IowaWORKS hiring event as an outstanding success.
"I do not know if I can thank the IowaWORKS team enough for everything they did for us and the success of our event," Zinn said. "We could have never hired this many employees so quickly without the support of IowaWORKS. I was in awe of how much the IowaWORKS team stepped in to help us, and all while having their regular jobs to do. I was in absolute amazement."
Gov. Kim Reynolds said manufacturing jobs continue to grow in Iowa and drive the economy.
"The momentum Iowa gained in adding manufacturing jobs in 2017 is carrying over into 2018," Reynolds said. "In 2017, manufacturing added 11,700 new jobs, which is the most of any sector. The commitment of companies to expand production in Iowa is a reflection of our strong workforce."
Collaborating with employers for hiring events is one of the many services provided by IowaWORKS Centers throughout the state. Michael Witt, IowaWORKS Eastern District Manager, said 179 of the job seekers were first-time IowaWORKS customers.
"We were thrilled with the turnout and the quality of the job candidates," Witt said. "It can be a massive undertaking for a company when it needs to hire so many workers at one time. Hosting the event in our Center streamlined the process for both Kraft/Heinz and job seekers."
IowaWORKS Centers offer numerous services for both job seekers and businesses. Job seeker services include employment searches, resume and cover letter assistance, mock interviews and workforce training.
