As a reminder this year and next year the Iowa NASP® State
Tournaments have been pushed back to a later date due to another event at the Iowa
State Fairgrounds.
2018 Bullseye State Tournament:
Jacobsen Building
March 10-11 (Saturday and Sunday)
2018 3D State Tournament:
Elwell Building
March 10 (Saturday Only)
Head coaches from every school have received a copy of the State Tournament rules. Coaches understand there is no guarantee to enter the State Tournament and no one
will officially know who is attending
the State Tournament until the league season has been completed (after
February 24).
Schools will register individual archers or teams based on
their league scores and their overall ranking within their division.
For full details of the state tournament rules or other
information such as spectator cost visit our website at www.iowadnr.gov/nasp.
Not everyone handles pressure the same. Some individuals weaken under pressure and others excel. It may seem odd, but one way to prepare for pressure if it affects you negatively is to attend more
archery tournaments. The tournaments do
not necessary need to be sanctioned NASP® tournaments but any archery
tournament such as the Iowa Pro AM, 4-H Shooting Sports, 3D Tournament or a local
archery shop's league tournaments. By
shooting in more tournaments, you will build confidence and become more comfortable with the tournament setting.
Some Tips to Overcoming Pressure:
Channel your excitement, adrenaline and nerves
positively.
- Try taking the energy (excitement, adrenaline and nerves) from the pressure and use it to your advantage.
Reduce the amount of pressure others
unintentionally place upon you.
- Remember your family, friends, teammates and coaches are just trying to support you.
Reduce the amount of pressure you put on
yourself.
- Try not to look at the leaderboard prior to
shooting.
- Don’t think about the next arrow score you need to shoot.

6 Tips on Dealing with Pressure in Sports
Feeling overwhelmed or stressed with the tournament season? Try taking the stress out of competition and
play a game with your school’s team, in an archery shop or at home with
your family.
What You Will Need:
- Bow and arrows
- Small balloons enough to cover the target (if you get red, yellow, blue, black and white
you can make your own archery target)
- Target pins
To Play:
- Pair up with another person
- Each archer will have six arrows
- Another person (instructor) will call out a
color of balloon to shoot.
- Each archer will shoot that color of balloon
until archers are out of arrows.
- Archer with the most correctly color popped
balloon wins.
You can always add to the game to make it more challenging such as:
- Points
- Go for the
“gold” last (yellow)
- Pop only one color balloon at a time
- Work your way
around the target starting from the outside to inside.
