In almost every sport, with archery being an exception, the top level
performers are very similar in their athletic attributes whether it be their body structure, stamina, coordination or natural athletic ability.
Rest assure, most coaches no matter the sport do not look at just the athletic
ability but they also are considering other talents as well. Those talents include but are not limited to academic achievements,
dependability, ethical standards, personal character, reliability, leadership, and overall interest.
While these abilities may not be the only deciding factor, we know many
of the Iowa archery coaches do take them into consideration when selecting their
teams.
Mental Preparation
Athletes can also begin focusing on their mental preparation, confidence,
composure and personal focus early in the season.
“Successful athletes prepare themselves for competition by
imagining themselves performing well in competition, create and use mental
images that are detailed, specific and realistic and use imagery during
competition to prepare for action and recover form errors and poor
performances.” - 1998 Ohio Center for Sports Psychology
