New Small Business Liaison for Air Quality

Christine Paulson is the new Small Business Liaison for air quality, effective November 1, 2016.  Responsibilities of the Small Business Liaison include providing technical referral assistance to small businesses, facilitating resolution of complaints from small businesses regarding DNR’s implementation of the Clean Air Act, and providing assistance to the Air Quality Bureau in developing and coordinating outreach assistance to small businesses for implementation of air quality regulatory requirements and programs. Christine may be contacted at 515-725-9510 or Christine.Paulson@dnr.iowa.gov.

Background

The Small Business Liaison position is one of three components that make up the mandatory small business stationary source technical and environmental compliance assistance program mandated under Section 507 of the Clean Air Act. The other two components are 1) the small business technical assistance program; currently performed by the University of Northern Iowa’s – Iowa Air Emission Assistance Program (IAEAP), and 2) the Compliance Advisory Panel; a seven member panel that renders advisory opinions to the other two program components.

Small businesses are defined as stationary sources owned or operated by a person that employs 100 or fewer individuals; is a small business concern as defined in the Small Business Act; is not a major stationary source; does not emit 50 tons or more per year of any regulated pollutant; and emits less than 75 tons per year of all regulated pollutants.
