AMES, Iowa – The Ames Animal Shelter will hold its microchip and vaccination clinic for Ames dog and cat owners from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 30, at the Ames Water Plant, 1800 E. 13th St. Vaccinations for Rabies and Distemper for cats (FVRCP) and dogs (DHPP), and Bordetella (kennel cough) for dogs will be available. The microchips and vaccinations are at no cost to participants thanks to a sponsorship from Bailing Out Benji.
The microchip and vaccination clinic is a drive-up event. Owners remain in their vehicle while animals are transported to the microchip implant and vaccination stations and back to the vehicle. Ames residents can register for a spot until April 30. After that, remaining spots will be open to the rest of the public to register. There is a limit of three animals per address. Those interested should submit an appointment request at: www.CityOfAmes.org/Clinic.
“We are incredibly proud to continue providing this service to our community thanks to our sponsorship from Bailing Out Benji,” said Ron Edwards, Animal Control Supervisor. “By offering these vaccinations and microchips at no cost, we’re helping pets and strengthening the overall health and safety of our community.”
Microchipping a pet is a permanent form of identification that injects a small microchip under the animal’s skin. Unlike a collar or tags, microchips cannot be lost or removed.
To date, 736 microchips have been implanted by the Ames Animal Shelter’s semi-annual clinics. Since the implementation of vaccinations last year, 287 vaccinations have been administered.
The Shelter is thrilled to have made an impact with its microchipping and vaccination clinics and looks forward to offering these additional services for pet owners.
The Ames Animal Shelter, located at 325 Billy Sunday Road, continues to be open by appointment only for animal adoption. For other services or more information, call the Shelter at 515.239.5530.
