Utility Drop Box Will be Unavailable Jan. 8-10 for Vinyl Wrapping and Relocation
AMES, Iowa – The City of Ames utility payment drop box, which had been moved to the west City Hall parking lot, will be unavailable from Wednesday, Jan. 8 to Friday, Jan. 10. The drop box is being removed for vinyl wrapping and relocation.
The drop box is expected to be delivered to its new location at the pull out on the west side of Burnett Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Streets, on Friday, Jan. 10. It will be permanently installed on the same median with U.S. Postal Services mailboxes. While the drop box is unavailable, customers are encouraged to use online bill pay or sign up for autopay at www.AmesUtilities.com.
“One of the easiest ways to ensure utility bills are paid each month on time is to use our direct debit service,” said Utility Accounts Supervisor John Odenweller. “It’s free, and the bill amount is debited monthly from the customer’s bank account.”
During Jan. 8-10, utility payments can also be made by:
- Visiting the customer service office located on the first floor of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours, customers can use the lost and found drop box in the Police Department lobby.
- Using the walk-up drop box located on the west side of the 200 block of Welch Avenue.
- Mailing payments to Utility Customer Services, P.O. Box 811.
Customers are encouraged to use the City website to start, stop, or transfer utilities. Online bill pay is also available through a third-party vendor and includes a convenience fee. The address is www.AmesUtilities.com or look for the green “Online Payments” button at www.CityOfAmes.org.
