Officials advise no swimming, ocean activities at
Hanalei Bay due to shark sighting
HANALEI – Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming or other ocean activities at Hanalei Bay due to a shark sighting.
According to a preliminary report, OSB officials report that an 8-foot shark was sighted fronting the Pavilion Tower in Hanalei Bay today, August 31, shortly before 12 p.m. No injuries were reported.
As a safety precaution, OSB officials have posted warning signs and will continue to monitor the area.
Lifeguards will reassess the area tomorrow morning. If there are no other sightings, the beach will reopen to ocean activities Tuesday, September 1. Updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
