Construction in Kōloa ongoing; road work near Kōloa Elementary School to begin 8:30 a.m.
POʻIPŪ — The Department of Public Works, in coordination with Goodfellow Bros. LLC, reminds residents, businesses, and visitors of ongoing construction activities impacting traffic in Kōloa as part of the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project.
To minimize impact to student drop-off at Kōloa Elementary School, lane closures near the intersection of Poʻipū Road and Waikomo Road will begin daily, starting Aug. 28, at 8:30 a.m., allowing time for uninterrupted student drop-off.
Earlier in the project, construction near the school began before the start of the school day and affected morning drop-off. That timing has since been resolved, and the County apologizes for the inconvenience to students, families, and staff.
Lane closures will also be in effect at the Kōloa Road and Poʻipū Road intersection from today, Aug. 28, 2026, through Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, to allow crews to complete improvements to underground utility infrastructure.
As stated in previous press releases, lane closures on other portions of Po‘ipū Road closer to Po‘ipū Beach Park may begin as early as 7 a.m.
During this time, traffic flaggers and traffic control signs will be in place along Kōloa Road and Poʻipū Road approaching the intersection. Drivers are advised to use caution, follow all posted signs, and obey the temporary traffic signals while traveling through the area.
Construction crews will make every effort to complete the work as efficiently as possible while minimizing impacts to the surrounding community.
We appreciate the public’s patience, understanding, and cooperation as these necessary improvements are completed at the Kōloa Road and Poʻipū Road intersection and elsewhere on Po‘ipū Road.
Please drive with caution and follow all posted traffic control signs.
