Injured hiker rescued from Waipo‘o Falls Trail Wednesday
LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 53-year-old female visitor from Waipo‘o Falls Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Wednesday, June 24.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 11:40 a.m.
Personnel with Waimea Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the on-duty battalion chief responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on scene and discovered the hiker with an apparent ankle injury. Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and extracted the hiker through use of the Aerial Rescue Vest (ARV), where she was then short hauled to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) landing zone. Upon landing at the NASA landing zone, rescuers loaded her into the helicopter, where she was taken to the Waimea Canyon Baseball Park landing zone. Upon landing at the Waimea Canyon Baseball Park landing zone, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.
The scene was cleared shortly before 2 p.m.
