Solid Waste Division updates trailer guidelines at Refuse Transfer Stations
LĪHUʻE – The Solid Waste Division announces updated trailer guidelines at County Refuse Transfer Stations, effective immediately.
The 5-foot by 8-foot by 2-foot trailer size limit was originally introduced to support facility renovations and enhance on-site safety. Following a review of current conditions and community needs, the County is lifting the limitations.
Trailers carrying loads up to the ordinance-referenced ¾-ton capacity are permitted. Trailers approximately 10 feet in length will be accepted, provided they can be safely maneuvered within the facility. Trailers that clearly exceed the ¾-ton capacity under Kauaʻi County Code Section 21-3.1, or cannot be safely operated within designated receiving areas, may be turned away at the discretion of on-site staff.
Residents are reminded to use caution when maneuvering trailers and to follow all posted safety guidance and attendant instructions while on site.
The County remains committed to safe, efficient operations at all Refuse Transfer Stations and will continue to evaluate facility conditions and procedures to ensure alignment with operational and safety standards. The community will be informed of any future policy updates.
