PUHI — The Solid Waste Division informs the public that Resource Recovery Solutions, the operator of the Puhi Metals Recycling Facility, has confirmed they will resume accepting vehicles for disposal beginning May 6.

Junk vehicle disposal services temporarily suspended starting May 1, 2026
PUHI — The County of Kaua‘i Solid Waste Division is informing the public of changes to its metals recycling services.
Resource Recovery Solutions, the operator of the Puhi Metals Recycling Facility, has confirmed they will be unable to accept vehicles for disposal due to capacity issues starting May 1, 2026.
As a result, junk vehicle disposal services that have historically been offered at no cost to residents will be suspended until further notice.
During this temporary suspension, the Kaua‘i Police Department will also not be processing abandoned and derelict vehicles for disposal. Members of the public are advised not to call KPD Dispatch regarding abandoned vehicle pickups during this time.
The County is actively reviewing options to restore this service and anticipates these changes will be temporary. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding and will share updates as more information becomes available.
