Registration starts May 1 for 2026 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs
LĪHUʻE – The Ocean Safety Bureau announces that online registration for the 2026 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs will begin Friday, May 1, at 7:45 a.m.
To register, please visit the County’s website at kauai.gov/JuniorLifeguardPrograms. Space is very limited.
This no-cost, weeklong program runs Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various beach locations and is taught by Kaua‘i’s Ocean Safety instructors. Participants will receive hands-on learning in ocean safety awareness and valuable lifesaving skills.
Training includes rescue skills, CPR, first aid, teamwork, problem solving, beach and ocean awareness, beach hazards education, and drug awareness.
The Keiki Lifeguard Program is open to children ages 8 to 11. Participants must be able to swim and run 50 yards nonstop without assistance and give 100 percent effort at all times.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to youth ages 12 to 17. Participants must be able to swim and run 100 yards nonstop without assistance and give 100 percent effort at all times.
Program dates and locations for both Keiki and Junior divisions are as follows:
- June 8 to 12 at Salt Pond Beach
- June 15 to 19 at Hanalei
- June 22 to 26 at Kalapakī
- July 6 to 10 at Salt Pond Beach
- July 13 to 17 at Hanalei
- July 20 to 24 at Kalapakī
State Championships will be held on Oʻahu. Dates are to be determined.
Participants must bring their own lunch, drinks, towel, goggles, and sunscreen each day.
Parents and guardians must upload proof of age during registration. Acceptable documents include a birth certificate, passport, or state-issued ID. School IDs will not be accepted. Invalid documents may delay or void registration.
Program sponsors include the County of Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association, Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, and many generous sponsors who support Kaua‘i’s youth.
